Free Resources on Online Safety and Media Literacy

Looking for ideas on teaching about online safety and media literacy? Here are some free resources to help you discuss the benefits and challenges of being online with Years 6 and 7. These can support any work you are doing to safely and gently cover some topics that may get discussed in schools on the back of Netflix's Adolescence series.

Our latest programme, Screen Time, has started touring schools. This programme crosses over primary and secondary schools. It explores the transition from primary to secondary school and that time when children often get their first smartphone and may see online content that they may need skills to make sense of.

Below are some free PowerPoint lessons that you can run with your students. We would suggest using these for Year 6 or 7 but of course make up your own mind about what works for your own group.

You can book the Screen Time programme and get access to more lesson plans like this as well as over 100 other RHE / RSHE lesson plans. The programme is a good early intervention programme to help children understand and question the content they see online and so works well with any work that you may choose to do in response to issues raised in the news from Netflix's Adolescence series.

The files are PowerPoint files and may take a few seconds to download or open.

Our puberty programme, My Mate Fancies You, is also available to book and also explores this time but with more focus on the physical and emotional changes that take place during puberty.
