How Does Loudmouth Help Schools To Teach About Puberty?

Summer term is a popular time for primary schools to deliver their puberty education and what better way to enhance this by utilising our fun and appropriate theatre in education programme My Mate Fancies You? The programme uses drama and humour to remove the embarrassment of learning  (and often teaching!) about the physical and emotional changes ahead.

Here’s what one of our customers said about My Mate Fancies You:

We're thrilled that so many schools book our programme My Mate Fancies You as an annual, integral part of their puberty education, recognising that it goes so much further in addressing children's concerns and experiences around this delicate issue.

My Mate Fancies You provides:

•A safe space for children to explore and understand the range of physical and emotional changes that take place during puberty.
•Reassurance that it is all completely natural.
•Advice on where to go for support.

Why do so many schools rebook this programme year after year? A quick peek at our evaluation statistics may reveal the answer to this:

Before seeing My Mate Fancies You, 33% of pupils rated their knowledge of growing up and puberty as Good or Excellent. This figure rose to 89% as a result of the programme.

Before the sessions, only a quarter of pupils said they felt that puberty is a normal part of life. This rose to 91% as a result of the sessions.

And do pupils think My Mate Fancies You helps people to learn about growing up and puberty? 100% of pupils said yes!

What people say

Take a look at how we’ve helped others

Brilliant acting and interaction with the children. The play itself covered puberty in an open, realistic and humorous way which forms a terrific basis for future discussion with the teacher and each other. So much depends on the enthusiasm of the actors and I feel that we were very lucky to have such a talented pair, not only to perform, but to lead the discussions afterwards. They were able to relate to the children without any embarrassment. SUPERB!!

Governor/Teacher

Compared to other companies we have had covering the same content, the actors were more flexible and accommodating to the children’s individual needs. Through their answers and questions, the children were demonstrating a higher level of understanding, empathy and personal safety.
