What Does the Guidance Mean for Pupil Referral Units?
Here's how the new statutory RSE guidance applies to PRUs
Nov 26, 2019
If you have been reading our previous blogs then there is good news as there is not much new to learn. The new guidance says pupil referral units (PRUs) are required to make provision for Relationships Education (RE), Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education in pretty much the SAME way as mainstream schools.
This means that PRU staff must have regard for the new guidance in delivering their programme, including management committees. Everybody on board for RSE!
The main thing to bear in mind when creating content for PRUs is that specific thought should be given to the particular needs and vulnerabilities of the pupils.
You know your students best. So, the guidance allows flexibility for you to help your students in the most beneficial and appropriate way.
We told you there was good news! And there’s even MORE….
Over the next few months Loudmouth are releasing lots of posts in this series of blogs that will be directly relevant to PRUs. The blogs will address a wide range of important topics detailed in the guidance, including LGBT, Puberty, Digital Issues and Sexual Harassment. Keep your eye on our website for more information.
You can also sign up to the Loudmouth E-Newsletter to keep updated about relevant news, lesson plans, and resources.
