Planning for the Summer Term 2025

It's not too early to start planning for Summer 2025. Read some tips and ideas for RHE/RSHE for next summer term.

We may only be in the Autumn term but this is a good time to reflect on what worked last year and plan ahead for Summer 2025.

The summer term can be a challenging time for Relationships and Health Education (RHE) / Relationships , Sex and Health Education (RSHE). Finding time and space amongst SATs and exams can provide challenges, yet this term can be an important one for RHE/RSHE with exam stress, preparing for the move from primary to secondary school and equipping young people for things that they may face during the school holidays.

We have put together some suggstions of how you can still plan ahead to ensure that your students get the support they need next summer.

The summer is a busy time for us. We can book your sessions in now for anytime this academic year. Have a look at these options and call us on 0121 445 4880 or email enquiry@loudmouth.co.uk if you want to find out more.

Different Formats

During the summer, the main school hall, can be a precious space. Exams, shows and end of year presentations may make it hard to book for outside visitor experiences.

We have a range of different formats that can help with this.

Our classroom based formats work with a class at a time. These are great for smaller schools or for targeted groups. They provide an in depth and interactive expeirence for students. We can work in almost any classroom space (and are a dab hand at moving tables and chairs to make the space work).

Our assembly style sessions are usually run in the main school hall however they can work in other small halls and spaces. The main benefit is that they are short. They last 1 hour and do not require staff to be out for long periods. You could have a Loudmouth assembly style session. We pack down quickly and so the hall is still available for most of the day.

Going Virtual

Another option is to use virtual resources. Some companies, including Loudmouth, offer sessions where we stream the lesson to the classroom. These are super easy to set up. We send a link to a recorded video of the drama to be watched in advance and then provide a Zoom or Teams invite so our Actor / Facilitators can run the workshop and discussions online. This eliminates travel costs and time and we can even deliver to multiple classes at once making this a great time and cost saver for schools in the summer.

RHE / RSHE Programmes that prepare students in the summer term

The summer term provides some great opportunities for RHE / RSHE.

For many Year 6 pupils, this will be their last term in primary school and they need support in making the transition to secondary school. They need ways to think about and learn strategies for making the most out of the move, prepare for common challenges and think about how friendships and other relationships may change. This is also the last chance to make sure that they know about all of the key facts about puberty and the changing adolescent body, including physical and emotional changes. Our programme My Mate Fancies You, covers all of these aspects and is available to book after the Easter holidays.

Older students may need support in managing their emotional wellbeing. Exams and tests may cause an increase in anxiety for some young people. Our Talking Heads programme, helps students to understand that they are not alone and that it is okay to not feel okay sometimes and where to get help. It teaches about strategies such as the 5 Ways to Wellbeing that students could use to manage positive wellbeing.

The summer is also a time to prepare students for the long summer holiday. This can be a time of experimentation or when some young people may lose some of the structure or support that school gives them. They may be exposed to new situations and so need skills to spot signs of coersion or grooming. You can find out more about all of the programmes that we can support your summer plan for RHE/RSHE here.

Training

The end of the summer can be a time when some staff have time to look at their own development. INSET days at the end of term can be a good way to celebrate the year and for staff to get together for training. We can run short training courses to help support staff's confidence in delivering RHE / RSHE. These are fun sessions with easy to use and practical techniques that can be used instantly on any topic. Staff learn how to use fictional characters and discussion to engage students with relevant and accessible material that generates discussion and builds skill.
