“This country has to wake up to the fact that children are being sexually abused in far greater numbers than was ever imagined. It could be going on in every type of community and in every part of the country“.
- Tim Loughton, Children’s Minister, November 2011
Sexual exploitation and sexual grooming are serious and important issues for schools to address. Working for Marcus has been used in schools to raise awareness of sexual exploitation and to train professionals since 1998. Due to a recent rise in interest in this work and growing concerns about the issues from schools we have updated this powerful programme top include new research into gangs and violence against women and girls. The new version builds on the detailed research and consultation of the original to include the new challenges from social media and a deeper understanding of the grooming process and potential risks.
This safe and carefully structured programme is available as an education programme for students as well as a training for police, health and social care professionals and gives learners and adults an insight into how easy it is to be unknowingly drawn into sexual exploitation and equips them with the necessary knowledge on how to best avoid it or where they can find support or advice.
