Teenage Pregnancy Rates Lowest Since 1969

The latest teenage pregnancy rates continue the downward trend.

Loudmouth have been delivering sexual health education programmes since 1998 and it is great to see the work that we and so many other organisations have had in reducing rates.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published the latest annual teenage conception data for 2016. Compared with 2015, there was a drop of 9.6% in the under-18 conception rate, a reduction of 59.7% from 1998. The under-16 conception rate reduced by 18.9% from 2015. Both rates are now at the lowest level since data collection began in 1969. All regions have seen declines from 2015 but significant inequalities persist between local areas, young people remain at highest risk of unplanned pregnancy and the teenage birth rate remains higher than comparable European countries.

What people say

Take a look at how we’ve helped others

Brilliant acting and interaction with the children. The play itself covered puberty in an open, realistic and humorous way which forms a terrific basis for future discussion with the teacher and each other. So much depends on the enthusiasm of the actors and I feel that we were very lucky to have such a talented pair, not only to perform, but to lead the discussions afterwards. They were able to relate to the children without any embarrassment. SUPERB!!

Governor/Teacher

Compared to other companies we have had covering the same content, the actors were more flexible and accommodating to the children’s individual needs. Through their answers and questions, the children were demonstrating a higher level of understanding, empathy and personal safety.
